The American Heart Association (AHA) has a great opportunity for a Sr. Program Manager, Strategy and Program Oversight-Integrated Programs based in our National Center office located in Dallas, TX ! This individual will be responsible for leading project management for key programs that require translation of new science guidelines and/or are priority issues for the American Heart Association's Strategic Plan and Health Impact Goals. The Sr. Program Manager will serve as a collaborative lead to programs that will drive health impact to reduce the burden of heart disease and stroke. This individual will be a program leader working with cross-functional and cross-departmental teams in the coordination, execution, monitoring and controlling of complex, multi-pronged programs. This individual will ensure coordinated execution of the program plan amongst teams, address challenges, proactively capitalize on opportunities, implement processes, monitor timelines and ensure deliverables are met. The Sr. Program Manager will work collaboratively with the Marketing Manager, Market/Issue Leader, Advocacy, Professional Education, Quality Improvement, Science and other assigned team members to drive deliverables so that the product is delivered on time, with high impact and success. This individual may also include working internally, with key stakeholders and volunteer leadership, and externally, with funders and strategic alliances, as appropriate.

Major Responsibilities Include:

  • Leads the development of overarching program (or health issue) plans and processes that drive health impact. Helps team prioritize tactics to drive a resource-efficient and impactful plan. Coordinates cross-functional delivery and implementation of a consolidated plan through inputs from marketing, quality, science, advocacy, communication and professional education teams.

  • Leads the implementation of key guidelines and science across the organization. Works with teams to ensure strong communication with internal stakeholders, sponsors, affiliate staff, alliances, external vendors, funders, and/or key stakeholders.

  • Works closely with internal staff to develop and oversee production schedules for multiple projects with overlapping timelines.

  • Leads the project initiation process to determine RACIs, deliverables, timelines and work breakdown structures.

  • Ensures local staff have training, educational tools, materials, and resources needed to execute local strategies and plan.

  • Prepares, evaluates and monitors program. Analyzes monthly reporting to help ensure consistency with sound business management. Tracks program budgets.

  • Helps establish program-wide performance measurements and key performance indicators through program reporting and dashboards. Evaluates program effectiveness.

  • Seeks opportunities to understand market/industry trends and drives novel program development to advance plan and outcomes.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Business, Health Management, Marketing or a related field required

  • Minimum 5-8 years of related experience in marketing with an emphasis in product development, program management and/or product management

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of program/product management, marketing, resource management, strategic planning, project management, budget development, relationship management, health sciences, and standard business practices

  • Knowledge of large scale, national marketing and/or public health programs, including strategic planning, contract negotiation, financial management, product or premium development, publicity and promotion management

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including those needed in consultation, writing and editing

  • Demonstrated skill in the principles and practices of project management including planning, budgeting, scheduling, delegating, managing, and reviewing work, with strong attention to detail

  • Demonstrated presentation skills, including the ability to organize material, communicate orally and in writing, and maintain audience rapport

  • Proficient in operating a PC, performing word processing, and working with spreadsheets, using

  • Microsoft Office Professional applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Able to use project management tools including Microsoft Project, Visio, and relevant mind-mapping software     

  • Ability to manage complex projects among various people working at a variety of levels in both for-profit and not-for-profit environments

  • Demonstrated collaboration skills, especially among people with different areas of expertise

  • Ability and willingness to travel overnight (approximately 10-15% of the time) and work irregular hours when necessary

Preferred Skills:

  • MS/MA in Public Health or Business is a plus

  • PMP Certification is a plus

  • Experience reaching diverse audiences is a plus
