American Heart Association Health Strategies Specialist in Austin, Texas

Due to the current pandemic, daily travel is minimal and voluntary to ensure the health and safety of staff. There is no overnight travel currently. In the future, this position may resume daily and/or overnight travel. All AHA offices are closed and staff are currently working from home. Offices will be reopening on a part-time basis in September 2021 and a full-time basis in January 2022; this position will resume to being based in the local office.

Responsibilities

The American Heart Association has a fantastic opportunity for a Health Strategies Specialist, Community Impact in Austin, Texas. The Health Strategies Specialist will be responsible for providing support to the Austin Community Impact team and other staff in health strategies and communications related resources, programs development, communications and training related to various AHA health and community impact assets. Support the coordination and implementation of projects, programs, and communication strategies with the Community Impact Director & Communications Director based on public health awareness through partnerships with an integrated market team, local agencies, and community service organizations.

Essential job duties:

  • Provides administrative and technical assistance to Community Impact Director and Communications Director

  • Manages reporting tools and data quality for health impact activities and programs of teams. Coordinate internal reporting processes, platforms and share point sites for community impact team

  • Coordinates and creates social media content, event calendars, and supports communication efforts for all of our local campaigns

  • Copy writing and copy editing

  • Provides project management, planning and logistical support for internal staff meetings and conference calls. Participates in internal team meetings to support the execution of programs and cause campaigns

  • Plans and prepares or supervises the preparation of periodic and special reports. Coordinate grant applications, reports, as well as internal/external reporting documents

  • Assists with budget, expense management, reporting and reimbursement

  • Provides support for the team and/or delivers assigned health related community programs which may include, but is not limited to, one or more of the following:collective impact strategies and outcomes, multi-cultural healthy lifestyle awareness and education, healthy choices nutritional education or other related AHA sponsored community-based programs.

  • Manages calendars and coordinate travel and schedule for team members, as requested

  • Serves as an AHA representative with key community organizations and partnerships. Plans and coordinates volunteer and committee meetings including preparing agenda and presentations. Assists in the management of multiple volunteer groups associated with assigned health focused program

  • Aids with creation and production of materials for campaigns, events and programs. Promotes AHA's programs online or through local activities

  • Develops graphic elements, materials and collateral for local campaigns and events

  • Monitors national, state and local health trends to inform Health Strategies staff of potential partnerships as well as funding and program opportunities. Helps Directors in fund development pursuits for Health Strategies programs from foundations, individuals and/or corporations

  • Assists the Community Impact Director and other staff with general human resource management actions

  • May plan, assign, and review work of student interns and volunteers

  • Performs related work as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Communications/PR, Marketing, or related area, or equivalent work experience

  • Two (2) years of experience supporting health impact teams and programs, or providing communications support

  • Graphic design and social media experience a plus

  • Knowledge and experience with health program education and awareness, community groups and influencers

  • Excellent written/oral communication skills, as well as demonstrated skills in consultation and meetings management

  • Expertise in creating documents in MS Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual preferred but not required
