Responsibilities

The American Heart Association is embarking on a new AI Initiative that is focused on understanding how the breakthroughs in AI capabilities can serve to improve/enhance our ability to achieve our mission goals. The purpose of this dedicated AI leadership role is to be a focal point for cross-functional/cross-department AI-based initiatives and to help lead the Association’s new AI Task Force commissioned in December 2023.

The position would be stipulated for a two-year term and tied to a specific internal funding source. Future AI Initiative funding may be available through market opportunities or the general funding of this role as an organization priority.

Our aspirational, long-term goal with the AI Initiative is that the Association will fully understand the potential of AI opportunities within the context of the skills and capabilities of what truly is a dynamic and multi-faceted healthcare organization and also identify pro-active mechanisms to harness AI Tools-Solutions-Relationships to help us meet our domestic and international goals.

The AI Business Lead position would report into the SVP for the Association’s Center for Health-Technology and Innovation (CHTI) with a dotted-line to the Association’s EVP for Business Technology (BT).

AI Business Lead

Skills and Experience (Broad Themes) –

  • General understanding of adoption and sales cycles for digital health solutions, with particular experience in AI/ML’s use and application in digital health.

  • Good understanding of the Digital Health Solutions marketplace – trends, history, patterns, tech events, societies and related.

  • General experience with developing proposals/pitches for both commercial and philanthropic relationships.

  • Strong background in strategic product development and (intra) preneuring.

  • Familiarity with clinical outcome studies, and evidence generation at the intersection of technology and science – digital clinical trials.

  • Ability to develop short-term and long-term strategic plans and planning processes, and excellent communication skills.

  • Valued and a plus: Strong network and contacts in the broad “health-tech” marketplace.

  • Valued and a plus: Strong understanding of the multi-faceted nature of the Association, it’s goals/mission/values/strengths.

Likely Focus and Activities –

  • Co-lead and support the work and activities of the newly established AI Taskforce – commissioned by the Association’s BOD in December 2023

  • Actively support the internal AI Workgroup , and help the team rapidly evolve the idea-sets and opportunities being generated throughout the organization.

  • Lead (or at least co-lead), external-facing conversations with a wide-range of AI platform companies, middle-ware companies and similar to explore opportunities that align with our organization and our goals.

  • Design and own a macro-map of AI-based Initiatives that will ultimately cut-across the organization and help establish an appropriate reporting and dashboarding mechanism for AI Leadership/CEO Cabinet/AI TK and the BOD.

  • Support/advise/contribute/develop philanthropic opportunities focused on AI-oriented initiatives (likely areas – scientific research, digital health, education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Five (5) - Eight (8) years of relevant experience.

  • Strong understanding of AI, ML, and LLM.

  • 3+ years of previous experience in traditional ML and deep learning techniques, and deployment tools and environments.

  • 3+ years of experience in business and relationship development, proposal management, and management of enterprise accounts or technical solutions in complex. organizations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Advanced Degree.
