The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent job opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional for a Development Director in our San Diego Division. Working in collaboration with volunteers and staff, you plan and manage the annual Heart Ball campaign generating $600,000 net revenue primarily through a combination of individual philanthropic gifts and corporate and community sponsorship.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Leads and actively participates in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and management of corporate and philanthropic involvement resulting in significant cash sponsorship and individual patron support to achieve the overall revenue goal of the Heart Ball.

  • Identifies, recruits and activates C-level leadership volunteers in both the corporate and medical communities to actively serve on the Executive Leadership Committee

  • Oversees event execution

  • Manages the San Diego Heart Ball campaign according to established best practices, benchmarks and timelines to achieve the overall net fundraising goal as well as increase public awareness of the AHA mission

  • Conducts active community networking and outreach through 10+ face to face meetings on weekly basis with current and prospective donors, volunteers and sponsors

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • 2+ years successful experience in fundraising, sales or marketing

  • Ability to recruit, train, and manage leadership volunteers to achieve results

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills

  • Ability and willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends as needed (10 + face to face meetings per week)

Here are some of the preferred experience/skills we are looking for:

  • Experience with the American Heart Association or similar non-profit experience in a fundraising position

  • Experience in asking for and securing individual gifts and/or corporate sponsorship
