As the Senior Community Impact Director , you will power our collective efforts as a trusted catalyst and convener to transform the health of our communities through developing and implementing interventions that achieve sustainable population-level health changes across the Greater Bay Area and beyond.

The primary focus of the position is designing, implementing, and scaling policy, system, and environmental change efforts for sustainable health improvement. Priority areas include improving blood pressure, increasing nutrition security, eliminating tobacco use and vaping, reducing risk for women, and advancing health equity and readiness.

This is a community-facing position that can be based in any of the nine counties of the Greater Bay Area.

Responsibilities

As a catalyst and convener of strategic relationships, develop and advance sustainable population-level health changes:

  • With equity at the center of our work, design and deliver on a community impact action plan that includes engagement and positioning strategies that drive health impact, volunteerism, and revenue goals.

  • Prospect and secure new as well as steward existing relationships on collective impact work through policy, system, and environmental (PSE) change efforts.

  • Gain insight into the goals and priorities of prospective and current collaborators through asking questions, listening intently, and connecting the dots.

  • Identify and co-create solutions to achieve shared goals.

  • Recruit, engage, and cultivate community and clinical volunteers in support of efforts to address social drivers of health with a focus on shared collective impact goals.

  • Develop and implement a cross-functional hypertension and cholesterol control strategy with performance metrics to demonstrate progress towards identified goals.

Maximize impact delivery:

  • Collaborate with colleagues as an internal consultant to advance community impact goals and objectives, current and potential PSE interventions, and integration opportunities.

  • Actively seek out and support opportunities for issue based funding including health asset sponsorships and activations.

  • Strategically contribute to and support the achievement of organizational impact goals by partnering with national, regional, and market colleagues to cultivate and manage funded priority work.

  • Oversee assigned grant/restricted budgets and deliverables.

Cultivate innovation and continuous learning:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and improvement through internal and external opportunities to improve health equity and address social drivers of health.

  • Encourage diverse thinking to promote and nurture creative approaches.

  • Operate with the highest degree of professional integrity and ensure operational and financial standards are consistently upheld.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates are energized by bold goals with the vision, tenacity, drive, and curiosity to achieve them.

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated track record in the design, implementation, and evaluation of addressing social drivers of health across diverse communities.

  • Related experience in health/science interventions with ability to readily learn, synthesize, and translate technical information to effectively communicate across audiences.

  • Proven ability to recruit, mobilize and engage volunteers, including C-suite level executives and grasstop and grassroot volunteers.

  • Demonstrated experience building a network of strong relationships with community-serving organizations, particularly with priority populations of health equity goals.

Relationship Development & Cultivation Skills:

  • Effective relationship building and management skills with the ability to gain trust across diverse audiences.

  • Professional interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of emotional intelligence and cultural humility.

  • Active questioning and listening skills with the ability to identify areas of alignment and co-create solutions.

  • Keen ability to apply customer insights to develop, elevate, and implement appropriate strategies.

  • Public speaking and meeting facilitation skills with the ability to provide training on health education to audiences of varied clinical/non-clinical backgrounds.

  • Effective writing skills with the ability to compel audiences to action in various written forms including proposals, briefs, presentations, and grant applications.

  • Ability to travel across nine counties of the Greater Bay Area to establish and maintain consistent presence; requires access to reliable transportation at all times on an immediate basis.

Team Collaboration and Results Orientation:

  • Self-starter who collaborates well in an interdependent, cross-functional team environment.

  • Resourceful, strategic, and solution-oriented approach with a strong orientation for continuous learning and improvement.

  • Effective organization, prioritization, and planning skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; team-based communication highly dependent on Outlook, Teams, OneNote.

Preferred experience:

  • Experience using clinical quality improvement methodologies.

  • Fundraising and/or business development/sales experience.

  • Grant writing experience

Compensation & Benefits

The expected pay range will be $84,360 to $102,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
