American Heart Association Intern, Community Impact in St. Petersburg, Florida

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students and recent graduates an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, to include volunteer recruitment/management, community event planning and management, public health research, community partner networking/connection, and program development/implementation.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week

  • Internship Duration: 1/17/2023 – 5/5/2023

  • Virtual work: Located in the Atlanta, GA area preferred but Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana or Florida accepted.

Internship Outcomes:

  • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management

  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others

Responsibilities

  • Design effective culturally appropriate written materials

  • Coordinate and conduct outreach efforts

  • Promote and support current events and activities throughout the region

  • Assist with the collection and analysis of data related to public health research

  • Establishing/maintaining strong community partnerships

  • Program development and implementation

  • Leadership and board support

Qualifications

  • 2+ years educational or equivalent experience in health or public health courses. A letter of recommendation from a current or recent professor, employer or internship supervisor is preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to research health topics and translate findings into actionable guidance.

  • Demonstrated excellence in written communications skills, including writing on health topics for promotional or educational outcomes.

  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.

  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.

  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities

  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Basic knowledge of Canva, Animoto or Adobe Creative suite is a plus

  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
