American Heart Association Community Impact Director in Tempe, Arizona

We have an excellent opportunity for a Community Impact Director based in our Greater Phoenix, AZ division. The Director will drive the execution of health impact goals within the Greater Phoenix area by focusing in the areas of hypertension, nutrition, tobacco control, and social determinants of health, with a focus on diverse communities.

To help you be successful, you will have access to our award-winning learning platform, Heart U, as well as our sales training and the award-winning relationship development program, Building Powerful Partnerships.

Due to the current pandemic, all American Heart Association offices are closed and daily travel is minimal and voluntary to ensure the health and safety of staff; all staff are currently working from home. In the future, this position will resume to being based in the local office and having up to 75% daily travel and minimal overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Support sustainable change within an organization by taking a comprehensive approach, including a focus on policies, systems and environments, to ensure equitable health for all.

  • Engage in collective community impact efforts, both leading and supporting, in partnership with key volunteers, strategic alliances, institutions and corporations.

  • Work with internal staff partners to ensure population health strategies are integrated into development, communications and marketing, advocacy, and healthcare quality improvement activities.

  • Implement a cross-functional hypertension control strategy (high blood pressure management and healthy behavior initiatives) in the market, including working with healthcare providers in the clinic setting to ensure standard methodologies for the treatment of patients. Collaborate with clinical staff for data entry, data reporting, compliance issues, and strategies for improved patient outcomes.

  • Collaborate with development staff partners and volunteers to identify, cultivate and secure program funding, including sponsorship (cash and in-kind) for relevant campaigns.

  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers and strategic community alliances to achieve priority community and collective impact goals.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of demonstrated ability working in community/public health.

  • Experience working with under-represented communities preferred.

  • Understanding of local health systems, relationships with hospitals, health clinics, and Federally Qualified Health Centers preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills in assessing the local market environment and available resources to successfully implement new and existing programs.

  • Proven ability to recruit, mobilize, and manage volunteers.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large projects and events ensuring deadline compliance.

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment working towards common goals with internal and external clients. Ability to influence team members without supervisory authority.

  • Excellent listening skills, including verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, negotiating, problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Highly effective organizational skills, time management, responsibility, leadership, and motivation.

  • Ability to travel at least 75% of the time within assigned coverage area, including some overnight travel.

  • Must have at least intermediate knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office.

  • Bilingual, English/Spanish, preferred.

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
