The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Development Director in our Eastern States region located in Northeast PA (Scranton/Wilk-Barre area) . The Development Director is responsible for fundraising initiatives and events; including our Gala Heart Ball (HB) event and our Heart Walk event (HW). Accountability will include volunteer recruitment, training, campaign goal and management activities to ensure efficient growth and development of the assigned local events. The Development Director is responsible for securing local sponsorship income, individual donations, and auction items, in partnership with the immediate supervisor to support the events and to maximize overall income potential. Recruit the volunteer leadership and support volunteer teams to grow our annual Heart Walk participation. Development Director will work as part of a team while adhering to specific “Best Practices” and staying with the American Heart Association’s fundraising cost guidelines.
Essential Job Duties:
Provide account development and retention to align revenue growth; while implementing and executing the Heart Ball event and Heart Walk events. Managing a year-round fundraising campaign.
Assure that the vision and strategic direction for the events are in alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives. Build relationships with corporate sponsors, partnering with and managing volunteer leadership.
Provide staff support in the area of volunteer recruitment and training, event logistics, year-round planning, cultivation, and sponsorship and auction item solicitation for the events.
Supports in developing, monitoring an annual working plan with dollar and volunteer recruitment goals, budget and timelines for the events. Develop contingency plans, as needed to successfully complete fundraising activities.
Secures sponsorships, individual donations and auction items.
This is a fast-paced sales type of position with measurable goals.
Develop profiles on the top businesses within the assigned geographic area with a documented plan to secure their involvement. Completes company goal setting worksheets and prioritizes companies by their potential.
Develop relationship-building strategies to include making personal visits on a monthly and quarterly basis. Develop effective working relationship with high level-executives and individual donors.
Work closely with the Communications Director on the promotion and communications plan. #LI-CS1

Bachelor’s or some college plus experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years experience equates to 1 full-time year of higher education.
Must have at least 2 year of experience in fundraising, outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
Knowledge of community organization, sales, fundraising, and marketing principles, practices, techniques, and trends. Ability to successfully navigate corporate cultures and build relationships with c-suite executives.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training. Skill in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations and similar narrative pieces.
Ability to read, comprehend and analyze number goals, as well as fundraising reports. Skill in use of spreadsheet/database analysis.
Ability to plan, work independently and adhere to budget and timeline expectations.
Excellent strategic, analytical, organizational and follow-up skills.
Demonstrated professional and mature interaction and collaboration with other staff and leadership volunteers, sponsors, donors and others to engage them toward the achievement of fundraising and mission goals.
Proven background and willingness to work in a high-demand, fast-paced atmosphere requiring flexibility and change.
Ability to do daily travel up to 75% and overnight travel up to 10%.
Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 or higher used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs are preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 20 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting and/or moving.
